Rakhi : The Timeless Bond
On this Rakhi, I find myself reflecting on the profound influence of the feminine energy in my life. From my earliest memories, I have always been surrounded by the nurturing and inspiring presence of remarkable women—my Maa, Mami, Mausi, five sisters, my wife, daughter, and now, my granddaughter. Each of these incredible women has shaped my journey in profound ways.
Shakespeare, in his exploration of sibling relationships, provides us with vivid portraits of family dynamics. In "King Lear," we see the stark contrast between the betrayal of Goneril and Regan and the steadfast loyalty of Cordelia. Similarly, in "Much Ado About Nothing," the relationship between Beatrice and Hero highlights the bandwidth of sisterly bonds and love. Shakespeare's insights into these relationships resonate deeply with my own experiences.
Among my sisters, Chetna Didi on one end has always been the guiding light, while Charu and Anna, being the younger ones, brought a different energy at the other end. Our summer vacations in Sagar are some of my most cherished memories—chasing butterflies, playing ludo, rami, hide and seek, and watching Rajesh Khanna movies with Guddi Mausi. Those moments left an indelible mark on my heart.
Chetna Didi and Vibha Didi have shared so much joy and laughter with me Laila O Laila still remains alive in mind —thank you for that. Archie, you are my sister hero—strong, determined, and focused. I am grateful for your support, especially during my passing out parade. Anna, you are the glue that holds us together, always smiling and engaging. and for the wonderful Rakhi visits that have created a beautiful bouquet of memories.
Charu, you are the darling of my life, and I marvel at the depth of love you have shown me. Maa, you, Ashita, and Madhuri transformed me from a stubborn and jiddi teenager into a slightly better version of myself. I still recall the coins you collected for me as a kitty to spend on my return from NDA. As I navigate the space left by Maa, I am grateful for your presence by my side.
As Rakhi arrives, I want to express my enduring love for all of you. Even as you share your love with your own families, always keep a little bit of that love reserved for me.
I must also acknowledge the immense love and care from my mamis, mausis, mamas, Ashok, Akhil, and their families. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this flourishing and joyful family tree.
Thank you to all my sisters, elders, and brothers for nourishing me with love.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Vicky
