Love - The only Virtue
In the movie Interstellar, Dr. Amelia Brand (played by Anne Hathaway) argues that love transcends the physical dimensions we can perceive. She says:
“Love isn’t something we invented. It’s observable, powerful. It has to mean something... Maybe it’s some evidence, some artifact of a higher dimension that we can’t consciously perceive.”
She suggests love could be like gravity - a force reaching across time and space, hinting at dimensions beyond our own. She is told that Love has social utility in bonding, rearing etc. But, she goes onto suggest what social utility is there for people who have died. Why does one continue to Love beyond boundaries and dimensions. She raises a very pertinent question of life.
How is love born?
Biologically, love arises from a mix of neurochemicals like dopamine, oxytocin, vasopressin, and serotonin. These shape bonding, attachment, empathy, and joy. But beyond biology, love springs from awareness: recognising a shared existence and feeling drawn to nurture, protect, or unite with another.
Spiritually, love is seen as the primal energy or vibration that gave rise to the universe - the thread that connects everything. Many traditions describe it as the creative force from which life emerged.
Why does love alone run in the veins of all living beings?
Every living organism shows, in some form, the impulse to connect, protect, and perpetuate - the essence of love. A mother’s care, a flock’s instinct to stay together, a tree’s roots nourishing nearby plants - all are manifestations of love as the glue of life.
At the deepest level, love reflects an organism’s drive toward wholeness and harmony. Evolution has favoured cooperation, empathy, and social bonds because they enhance survival - but they’ve also given rise to the beauty of affection, compassion, and altruism.
How can we make a difference by being more loving?
Start with presence: Truly listen when others speak. Give them your full attention.
Extend empathy: Try to feel what others feel; walk in their shoes.
Practice kindness: Small, sincere gestures — a comforting word, a helping hand — ripple outward.
Forgive: Letting go of resentment frees your heart and breaks cycles of hurt.
Celebrate others: Recognize and uplift the strengths and joys of those around you.
As Mother Teresa put it:
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
And as the Dalai Lama says:
“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.”
Every act of love - however small - creates a resonance that subtly but powerfully transforms the world. By choosing love, we align ourselves with the deepest force of life itself.
As you grow in life, always measure your success and prosperity by how much Love you actually have. Love is the underlying substratum of every thought, feeling and action. When thinking, feeling and doing are sourced out of Love, then Life Rocks. Life becomes joyous, spontaneous, and blissful.
Amazing as always @Ashu!
