Guru Gobind Singh's Message : A Soldier can be a Saint

From a tender age, an insatiable quest for truth has driven me. The seeds of spirituality and esotericism were sown early, nurtured by my love for Vedanta, Sanatan, and the wisdom of Gurus, Sages, and Masters. I delved into scriptural studies, drawing essentials from the Gita and Vedic texts, while exploring Sikh, Buddhist, and Christian scriptures to unravel the fundamental question: "Who am I?" Personal experiences and experiments guided me on this journey.

As a soldier by profession, I walked a dual path, balancing my mystical pursuits with the demands of my duty. However, it was Guru Gobind Singh's life and teachings that brought harmony to my dichotomous existence. He embodied the ideal of being both a warrior and a saint, showing me that it's possible to seek truth while fulfilling one's duties.

Guru Gobind Singh's legacy inspires me to relentlessly pursue truth, even amidst the challenges of my profession. On his birth anniversary, I humbly bow to his greatness, honoring his profound impact on my life.

Guru Gobind Singh(1666-1708) was the tenth Sikh Guru and played a significant role in shaping the Sikh faith. He is known for his bravery, military leadership, and spiritual guidance.

Militarisation of Sikhism. Guru Gobind Singh militarised Sikhism, creating the Khalsa (Sikh warrior community) to defend against persecution and protect the faith.
Introduction of the Five Ks.  He introduced the Five Ks (Kesh, Kangha, Kara, Kirpan, and Kacchera), which are the five articles of faith that Sikhs wear to symbolise their commitment to the Khalsa.
Emphasis on Courage and Sacrifice. Guru Gobind Singh emphasised the importance of courage, sacrifice, and martyrdom in the face of persecution, inspiring Sikhs to stand up for their rights and defend their faith.
Creation of the Sikh Scripture. He created the Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred scripture of Sikhism, which is considered the ultimate spiritual authority for Sikhs.
In summary, while Guru Nanak Dev laid the spiritual foundation of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh transformed the faith into a powerful force, emphasising courage and sacrifice to protect the Sikh community.
Today, as I celebrate his presence I am humbled by his work, life and teachings. I no longer have to be divided into two selves in one body. I am happy to be a soldier and a spiritual seeker, both.

  6. Soldiering and spiritualism are not really dichotomous come to think of it. A we all are aware that Gita itself was the answer to Arjun's queries given in Kurukshetra with both the rival armies facing each other. Parashuram was also a soldier a also a great sage. Guru Govind Singh was also in the same mould. To sum up "satyanveshane" May you pursue truth..

  7. Soldiering and Spirituality go hand in hand. No one deals with life and death with equal stoicism as a soldier does. And this is what spirituality is all about. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was an epitome of this combination. Sat Shri Akaal!
